Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather Live Boxing fight

It’s FINALLY here! The fight of the century is on. Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather will take on UFC king Conor McGregor in a boxing bout on August 26 in Las Vegas. Stay here for all the latest updates.

We were treated to another night of mayhem last evening as Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather clashed in New York.

But after the excitement in Toronto, this press conference failed to live up to the hype.

McGregor started well, delivering a Notorious BIG rap, but it was downhill from there.

The Irishman addressed the idea that he had been racist in the preceding events by declaring himself half black - from the waist down.

Mayweather also struggled for new material and at one stage beckoned his entourage on to the stage where there was a brief scuffle with McGregor in the middle.

The boxing legend did make it rain - as he threw money around on the stage - but McGregor was quick to point out they were $1 bills. We were treated to another night of mayhem last evening as Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather clashed in New York.

FLOYD Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor got their wish to fight in smaller gloves, but not before being chastised by a Nevada boxing official for using the issue to hype their fight later this month.

Nevada boxing regulators on Wednesday gave the two fighters an exemption to a rule requiring 10-ounce gloves for fights at 154 pounds, approving 8-ounce gloves for the August 26 (August 27 AEST) bout. Representatives of both fighters appeared before the Nevada State Athletic Commission to request the waiver.

Commissioners also approved veteran referee Robert Byrd as the third man in the ring for the fight.

Commission Chairman Anthony Marnell said he was comfortable with the fighters using smaller gloves, but unhappy that they used the issue to sell the fight on social media.

“I do not like the Nevada State Athletic Commission being used as a pawn in a social media battle,” Marnell said.

Under Nevada regulations, 10-ounce gloves are required in fights above 147 pounds and the bout is set for 154 pounds. But Mayweather has worn 8-ounce gloves most of his career, and McGregor has worn 4-ounce gloves in his UFC fights.

We’re halfway through the Mayweather vs. McGregor World Tour. If the Los Angeles stop disappointed, the Toronto presser was worth the very long wait. You can catch highlights of it in this post. Next up is Brooklyn, New York. The Barclays Center should be filled with Conor McGregor fans, as was the case in Toronto and Los Angeles. You can also expect plenty of boos for Floyd Mayweather, with the arena already known for boos whenever the NBA’s Nets attempt to play professional basketball there.

The UFC ace McGregor and boxing king Mayweather have been embroiled in a war of words for some time and will finally clash in the ring.

Mayweather, who holds a 49-0 record, will come out of retirement for the bout. The 40-year-old hung up his gloves in September 2015.

Though he holds a boxing license from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, this will be McGregor’s first pro boxing match.

When is the fight?

The long-awaited fight takes place on Saturday, August 26. As with all big boxing scraps in Las Vegas, expect the opening bell to sound around 4am in the early hours of Sunday morning.

What venue will hold it?

Mayweather Promotions have reportedly booked the 20,000 capacity T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the fight.

The venue will also host Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez the following month in September 2017.

Finally, we have a fight! After being dissected for over a year, the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor super fight is official. The boxing match will take place on August 26 in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena with the fighters competing at 154 pounds with 10-ounce gloves. The buildup to the fight has been a complete and total circus so far, but ludicrousness aside, it could be the most lucrative fight in combat sports history.

After Conor McGregor's win at UFC 205 over Eddie Alvarez in November, speculation for the mega-fight picked up again, causing social media and sports talk shows to blow up, which resulted in online sports book Bovada setting odds for the fight. Unsurprisingly, Floyd Mayweather originally opened as a HUGE favorite, coming in at -2250, with McGregor coming back at +950. On the day the fight became official, Mayweather’s odds were down to -800 with McGregor coming back at +500. Odds continue to move for the bout as the two fighters continue to trade insults through the media.

The interest for the fight is clearly there, but many viewed the likelihood of this fantasy fight to be more fiction than reality. “This fight is a long shot to happen, in my opinion, and McGregor is a bigger long shot if it does happen,” Bovada sports book manager Kevin Bradley said after odds for the fight initially opened. “Floyd has never really been hit his entire career against the baldest professional boxers in the world, so Conor will have to shock the world to even lay some leather on Mayweather”.

Analysis from boxing pundits is that Mayweather will absolutely dust McGregor, which a fair assessment is considering McGregor has zero pro boxing experience. For what its worth and it’s not very much, McGregor was an all-Ireland boxing champion during his youth.
